Hot-rolled coils, formally known as hot-rolled steel plate coils, refer to steel products manufactured from steel billets (primarily continuous cast billets) as raw material. These are continuously rolled through a rolling mill at elevated temperatures (typically heated to 1100–1250°C, exceeding the steel's recrystallisation temperature), ultimately forming steel plates of specified thickness and width. These are supplied in coiled form (facilitating storage, transportation, and subsequent processing). As one of the most widely produced and applied fundamental steel products within the iron and steel industry, it also serves as the core ‘parent material’ for downstream steel products such as cold-rolled coils and galvanised coils.
